Want a Zen VACA - check out NIZUC
Walking into the “zen” like lobby of the Nuzic resort, as smells of frangipani waft through the air, you get a feeling of calmness with an exhilarating sense of happiness.
The Nizuc is not all-inclusive. It is expensive, dining is a-la carte. The rooms are beautiful, service impeccable, spa is exceptional. The resort is only 15 minutes from the airport. Once at resort you really don’t want to leave, feels like you’ve stepped into a large villa in Malaysia.
We booked through Amex Platinum travel, $500 a night for a deluxe room ( 400-500 square feet) with a beautiful view of the ocean. Received complimentary breakfast , plus 2 fifty minute massages ($168.00 value each). Nuzic’s official site offers a variety of room specials. Always look at several web-sites in order to receive the best deal.
Breakfast offered the perfect balance of items to choose from - fresh egg station - quesadilla station with a plethora of sauces-homemade breads, muffins and cakes , hot Mexican style cocoa - chicken, beef, pork , black beans , potatoes - crepes and waffles - fresh squeezed juices and fruit - cereal bar - cold meats and cheese station with all the fixings. The best part is breakfast is served until 11am.
There is a small beach with white sand to relax , but we hung out at the infinity pool with the swim up bar. The bartenders and waiters were friendly and fun. They knew your name and your drink as you sauntered over to the bar. Ordered the shrimp taco’s and shrimp ceviche at the pool, both were amazing! There is another beautiful pool near Punta restaurant if you want a super chill atmosphere.
Lets talk food!!!
Culinary options:
Ni (Peruvian - 12-7pm)
Outdoor restaurant with wonderful views of the beach. Ordered -Ceviche Sensacion (Shrimp, Fish Octopus, Coriander sauce and Leche de Tigre) - Grilled Octopus and Grilled Grouper along with Pisco Sours. The flavors vibrantly popped in your mouth with each bite of each dish.
La Punta (lunch - 12-4:30 - dinner - 6:30-11:00)
Loved La Punta for lunch , you feel like your sitting in an upscale , outdoor Balinese restaurant, super cool !(Was told at night the mosquito’s are relentless). Ordered - Duck Carnitas Tostado, looked like a little pizza, the flavors were amazing, shredded duck layer on a crispy corn tostado with creamy avocado & Tamed sauce, the grilled jumbo shrimp marinated in garlic were sumptuous , Caribbean Hog Snapper - moist and delicious, the passion fruit sauce with Chile chipotle complimented the dish, cheese fondue with sausage was yummy, warm and gooey especially nestled in a hot corn tortilla.
Terra Nostra (6:30-11:00pm)
Our least favorite. But we did not order their most popular dishes like pizza and pasta. My better half is on Keto, so we ordered a meat & cheese board, did not disappoint, and Stracotto Di Mare-short ribs cooked slowly , very rich and tender, served over creamy polenta, which was firm and not at all creamy. I would stick to the traditional dishes, ravioli, lasagna, pizza , etc, etc.
Indochine (6:30-11:00pm)
A gorgeous, elegant , zen like atmosphere. John Travolta and family were sitting next to us, ah ha - a star sighting!! Ordered - Bluefin Tuna Sashimi , melt in your mouth delicious - whole Peking duck- I actually think it was better than the Peking duck I tried in Beijing. The chef came out and carved the duck table-side, served with rice pancakes along with julienned scallions and cucumbers. Winner, winner!
R (Upscale Mexican 6:30-11:00pm)
Super nice , fantastic setting. Honestly, we had a lot to drink, all I remember was the Mexican Hairless Pig, which I highly recommend. It was not a whole pig , no face involved, the meat was crispy on the outside and moist on inside, served with Xpelon beans, cabbage and carrot salad with sour orange juice.
There were two bars that we tried , one every night before dinner , which had floor to ceiling glass windows , beautiful views , a TV, in order to watch any sport games and great drinks. The cigar bar stayed open until 1am, it was dark , lots of comfy couches , a gentleman rolling cigars, but the room was not smoky , was super enjoyable.
SPA Nizuc
WOW!!! I received 2 deep tissue massages, both did not disappoint. Before your massage it is recommend to come an hour earlier to enjoy the facilities. After changing your escorted to the hot steam room , given a scrub and face cleanser to use while relaxing in the room then onto the cool spray shower. You can dip into the thermal pool then relax in the relaxation area while the attendant applies all the featured face creams, eye gels and hair masks. After your treatment you can use all the facilities over and over or just put your suit back on and relax at the spas outdoor pool. The Spa is highly recommended.
The concierge was extremely helpful in setting up a catamaran for Sunday. Fifteen of us went snorkeling at a shipwreck, thousand of fish to be seen, then we went onto a sand bar to hang. They provided beer, wine and soft drinks while we brought snacks. The concierge will set up all kind of day trips for your afternoon enjoyment.
If you want a super chic, zen like, romantic, relaxing, pampering , foodie “tripcation” , NIZUC is the place to stay.
